Elon Musk's stunning speech: I want to create a new world

According to media reports, on October 27th local time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk completed a $44 billion deal to privatize Twitter and has taken charge of the company.
Musk's first move after completing the acquisition was to dismiss several executives, including Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and trust and security director Vijaya Gadde.
After being fired upon completion of the transaction, Parag Agrawal and Ned Segal were "escorted out" from the San Francisco headquarters.
Musk stated that his interest in this platform is not in making money, but rather in acquiring Twitter to help humanity and hope for a common digital city square for (human) civilization.
The article I am sharing today is Musk's speech on internal drive. He said that the key to his success is' internal drive ', and the scariest thing in the world is not having' internal drive '.
His inner drive lies in - "What I want to do is meaningful things, do my best to make this world a better place, that's what I want to do. I want to change the world, and I hope to do my best to create a new world where people can enjoy life

01.I have always had a sense of crisis that exists
When I was a child, people often asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up, but I actually didn't know. Later on, I thought that inventing would be cool, because science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke (author of "2001: A Space Odyssey") once said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is no different from magic
Think about it, if humans 300 years ago saw that today we can fly, communicate over long distances, use the internet, and immediately find information from all over the world, they would definitely say, 'This is magic.'. If I could invent very advanced technology, wouldn't it be like magic?
I have always had a sense of existential crisis, eager to find out the meaning of life and the purpose of the existence of all things. The final conclusion drawn is——
If we have a way to make the world's knowledge progress more and more, then we will be more capable of posing better questions, enhancing the wisdom of all humanity, and striving for a higher level of collective civilization throughout our lives. This is the meaning of living.
02.I want to do something that will affect the future of humanity
So, I decided to pursue physics and business. To achieve such ambitious goals, it is necessary to understand how the universe operates, how the economy operates, and to find the most talented team to invent things together.
In 1995, I came to California (to pursue a PhD at Stanford University) to find ways to improve the energy density of electric vehicles, such as whether there were better capacitors that could be used as a substitute for batteries. But then, with the rise of the Internet, I was faced with two options: continue to study capacitor technology with low probability of success, or devote myself to the network business. Finally, I chose to drop out of school and participate in online entrepreneurship, one of which is PayPal.
The most important insight into establishing PayPal comes from its birth process. We originally planned to use PayPal to provide integrated financial services, which is a large and complex system. As a result, no one showed much interest in introducing this system to others every time. Wait until we introduce it again. The system has a small feature for email payment, which makes everyone very interested.
So we decided to focus on email payments, and PayPal really went viral. However, if we hadn't noticed others' reactions and made changes, we might not have been so successful. So, collecting feedback is important and should be used to correct your previous assumptions.
In October 2002, eBay acquired PayPal for $1.5 billion in stock. Musk is the largest shareholder, holding 11.7% and cashing out $180 million.
After the success of PayPal, I began to wonder, what are the current issues that are most likely to affect the future of humanity?
I believe that the biggest problem facing the Earth is sustainable energy, which means how to produce and consume energy in a sustainable way. If we cannot solve this problem in the 21st century, we will face disaster.
Another major issue that may affect human survival is how to migrate to other planets.
03.If you have a dream, you have to let go and do it
The first question prompted me to establish Tesla and SolarCity (the largest rooftop solar system supplier in the United States).
The second question led me to establish the space technology company SpaceX.
In 2002, I founded SpaceX to solve the problem of space transportation. The people I talked to at the time advised me not to do it, and one friend even went to find a movie of a rocket explosion for me to watch (laughter). He's actually not wrong. I've never made a physical product before, so it was really difficult at first. The rocket launch failed three times in a row, which was very agonizing.
But we learned from each failure and finally succeeded in the fourth launch in 2008, allowing Falcon 1 to enter Earth orbit. At that time, I had already used up all my funds, but fortunately it was successful.
Afterwards, our transport rockets went from Falcon 1 to Falcon 9, and we also developed the Dragon spacecraft. Last year, the Dragon spacecraft successfully connected with the International Space Station after launch and returned to Earth. I really broke out in a cold sweat, I can't believe we did it.
However, there are still more goals to be achieved in order for humans to migrate to other planets. So, I hope you can also join SpaceX or other space exploration companies.
This is not looking down on the Earth. In fact, I am quite optimistic about the future of the Earth. I believe there is a 99% chance that humans can still live comfortably for a long time.
However, even if there is only 1% future risk for Earth, it is enough to stimulate us to prepare early and make a 'planet backup'.
In 2003, to demonstrate the potential of electric vehicles, I founded Tesla. In the past, many people believed that electric cars were too slow, couldn't run far, and had an ugly appearance, no different from golf carts. In order to change people's impression, we have developed the Tesla Roadster, an electric sports car that is fast, long-distance, and stylish.
So, if you want to start a company, you must actually create product prototypes. Because no matter how exciting paper assignments or PowerPoint presentations are, they cannot compare to the persuasiveness of actual products.
After the Roadster was launched, some people said, 'Even if you can make expensive limited edition sports cars, do you have the ability to make real mass-produced cars?' No problem, we will launch the Model S to prove it to everyone.
This is the entrepreneurial journey I have taken along the way. What I want to say is that you are all wizards of the 21st century, and your imagination has no limits. Don't let anything stop you, just indulge in magic.
Below, I will share a few secrets to pursuing success, some of which you may have heard before, but are worth emphasizing again.
I will encourage you. Now is the best time to take risks. If you have dreams, let go and do them. I guarantee you won't regret it!
Aim for the moon, if you fail, at least you can land on the clouds.
04.I think people can choose to be extraordinary
A person's life, if not experienced several failures, will miss the opportunity to challenge the limits of self.
People are too afraid to fail. People over-amplify the fear of failure. Imagine what it would be like to fail. I might be hungry and lose my home, but I felt I had to have the courage to try.
Sometimes, people define their own abilities, and they don't actually realize how much they are capable.
The course of life is always accompanied by countless successes and failures. Since we have chosen innovation, we should not be afraid of failure, but to chew the essence of things from each failure. Through constant experimentation, success will eventually be achieved.
As far as I am concerned, I will never give up. I mean, Never!
Accept failure, but don't accept giving up.
Your goal is important: if I purely wanted to optimize my worth, I wouldn't choose these businesses. I would be in the real estate or finance industry, or, frankly, in the oil industry.
But what we need to consider is what people live. What is the meaning of people alive. Is what we are doing expanding the territory of human intelligence?
When I was in college, I always thought about what would most affect the future of mankind. In fact, the only meaningful thing to do is to strive to improve the wisdom of all mankind and strive for a higher level of collective civilization for a lifetime. This is the meaning of living.
All the way from PayPal, I 've been thinking: "Well, what is the most likely factor to affect the future of humanity?" Instead of thinking about "What is the best way to make money?"
For me, what I want to do is meaningful and do my best to make the world a better place. This is what I want to do. I want to change the world, I hope to do my best to create a new world, so that people enjoy life, this is what I want to do.
For that, I don't mind taking risks.
I hope that what I do can have a profound impact on people's lives. Either don't do it, do it and do it historically.
Finally, it is worrying that today's children's motivation to learn and improve comes almost entirely from external pressures and rewards. The result is that they will have neither grand goals nor perseverance. I don't want to imagine such a future.
I believe that as long as there is enough internal drive, ordinary children can also achieve extraordinary achievements.
All my achievements today come from the words of the author of "2001: A Space Odyssey": "Any sufficiently advanced technology is no different from magic."
