Internal chain complements external chain to achieve the transformation of manufacturing industry towards mid to high end intelligent manufacturing

Our reporter Li Xiaohong

The impact and influence of the global spread of the epidemic on the development of China's manufacturing industry are self-evident. Currently, China's manufacturing industry is shifting from internal shocks to external shocks, and from supply side shocks to both supply and demand side shocks.

According to customs statistics, the total value of China's goods trade imports and exports in the first two months of this year was 4.12 trillion yuan, a decrease of 9.6% compared to the same period last year. Among them, exports amounted to 2.04 trillion yuan, a decrease of 15.9%; Imports amounted to 2.08 trillion yuan, a decrease of 2.4%.

At present, China's economy has deeply integrated into the global industrial and supply chains, forming a global pattern of "you in me, I in you". The spread and expansion of the international epidemic have led to a contraction in production and consumption in affected countries, frequent stock market fluctuations, a significant reduction in trade activities among countries, and the risk of global economic recession is constantly accumulating.

Xin Guobin, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that the negative impact of the epidemic on China's industrial economy is continuing to manifest, with the industrial chain cycle severely hindered and enterprises' production and operation greatly impacted, with major indicators fluctuating beyond expectations.

Data shows that in the first two months, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size decreased by 13.5% year-on-year, the realized profit decreased by 38.3% year-on-year, and the loss area of enterprises reached 36.4%. Among the 41 major industrial sectors, 30 industries have experienced a double-digit decline in industrial added value, with small and medium-sized enterprises and labor-intensive industries being greatly affected by the impact.

The manufacturing industry is the mainstay of China's national economy, with its added value accounting for nearly 30% of the gross domestic product. Effectively responding to the impact of the epidemic on the manufacturing industry is related to national economic security and the overall development of China's economy.

Professor Lei Ming from Guanghua School of Management at Peking University believes that due to China's possession of all industrial categories and the world's largest manufacturing scale, coupled with a super large market of 1.4 billion people as a backing, as long as the orderly coordination of the upstream, midstream and downstream of the industrial chain is strengthened, China's economy not only has the ability to withstand pressure on its own, but also has strategic depth to resolve various risks and bridge economic and trade impacts. Therefore, in the face of the epidemic, it is necessary to adopt an orderly collaborative strategy and vigorously promote the orderly collaboration of the upstream, midstream, and downstream of the industrial chain.

In addition, China is currently the top export destination for 33 countries and the top import source for 65 countries. In the past decade, China has become the center of the global supply chain network, with a considerable proportion of intermediate goods imports and exports, which has further spread the impact of the epidemic.
