Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology was established in Jinan

On November 10th, Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology was established in Jinan. The Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government held a symposium to study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important discourse on scientific and technological innovation, deeply implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions and requirements for Shandong work, jointly witness the establishment of Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology, promote basic scientific research, enhance original innovation capabilities, and accelerate the construction of a strong province in science and technology and an innovative province.

Liu Jiayi, secretary of the provincial Party committee, Wang Zhigang, minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ding Zhaozhong, a Nobel laureate in physics and professor of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, attended the symposium and delivered a speech. Gong Zheng, deputy secretary of the provincial Party committee and governor of the province, presided over the symposium.

At the meeting, Liu Jiayi and Ding Zhaozhong unveiled the plaque for Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology. Liu Jiayi presented Ding Zhaozhong with an honorary letter of appointment as dean and Cheng Lin with a letter of appointment as dean.

This is a grand event in the field of science and technology, and the best interpretation of the concept of science without borders. China attaches great importance to the development of science and technology, placing technological innovation in an important position of economic and social development. In recent years, we have deeply studied and implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping's important discourse on scientific and technological innovation, adhered to innovation as the primary driving force for development, continuously improved the system and mechanism of scientific and technological innovation, and used scientific and technological innovation to lead comprehensive innovation. Currently, China's door to openness is getting wider and wider, and technological cooperation has become an important part of international cooperation. We are willing to engage in exchanges and cooperation with scientists from various countries on major scientific and technological issues of global concern, and contribute to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. Shandong is a major province in science and technology, leading in fields such as oceanography and supercomputing. In his speech, Bai Chunli said that currently, Shandong is earnestly studying and implementing the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, aiming at the forefront of world scientific and technological innovation development, closely focusing on the innovative needs of regional economic and social development, and mobilizing the efforts of the whole province to build a new type of research and development institution with world-class level. This is a strategic measure with foresight and fully reflects the high political consciousness and strong mission of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Government. We firmly believe that with the strong support of Shandong Province and all sectors of society, the rich cultural history and heritage of Shandong, and a group of passionate scientists willing to contribute to scientific and technological innovation, the Institute of Advanced Technology will become an innovation hall that international scientific and technological elites aspire to, a strong engine to promote high-quality development in Shandong, and a new banner flying at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation. Ding Zhaozhong introduced the research process, application status, and future goals of AMS in his speech. He said that AMS is a large-scale scientific experiment placed on the International Space Station, with hundreds of scientists from multiple countries around the world working with me. From the experimental data, we have seen some phenomena that have never been discovered before, changing our understanding of the universe over the past few decades. Shandong University has made outstanding contributions in solving key AMS technologies and is continuously monitoring and recording experimental data. Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology has chosen AMS and other topics that are very important for future technological development and exploration of natural laws to conduct cutting-edge research, and is sure to produce a batch of creative achievements. My team and I will organize major scientific research seriously, do things that others have not thought of or thought impossible, and hope to achieve more scientific research results at Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology.

Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering He Huawu, Secretary of the Party Committee of Peking University Qiu Pingliang, and Director of the Nuclear Science Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Professor Boleslau Vislok, delivered speeches.
