China has successively built six national level supercomputing centers to create a new model of supercomputing driven development

At the "Commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of China's Supercomputing Industry and the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the National Supercomputing Tianjin Center" event held in Binhai New Area, Tianjin on July 6th, it was learned that as of now, China has built six national level supercomputing centers in Tianjin, Changsha, Guangzhou and other places, providing new impetus for innovation driven development.

As early as May 2009, the Ministry of Science and Technology approved the establishment of the National Supercomputing Tianjin Center, followed by the establishment of national level supercomputing centers in Shenzhen, Jinan, Changsha, Guangzhou, and Wuxi. With the deployment and application of a number of supercomputers, such as "Tianhe-1", "Shenwei Blue Light", "Dawn Nebula", "Tianhe-2", "Shenwei the Taihu Lake Light", in these national supercomputing centers, a new course of leapfrog development of China's independent supercomputing technology innovation and industrialization has been initiated.

The National Supercomputing Tianjin Center was established earliest, not only deploying China's first multi billion time supercomputer "Tianhe-1", but also shouldering the responsibility of developing China's new generation of multi billion time supercomputer "Tianhe-3". Zhang Yuzhuo, Secretary of the Tianjin Binhai New Area District Committee, said that since the signing of the comprehensive science and technology cooperation agreement between Binhai New Area and National University of Defense Technology in 2008, both sides have embarked on a path of military civilian integration and innovation. "The Tianhe-1 not only has been widely used in many fields such as economy and technology, but also provides strong support for the development of science and technology innovation industries

Vice President of the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau, Li Xiang, stated that Tianjin has gradually established a relatively complete independent information industry, including high-performance chips, autonomous operating systems, high-performance servers, databases, etc., around the transformation of innovative achievements in supercomputing technology. It has become a demonstration base for high-end information technology innovation, transformation, and leadership.

From the historic breakthrough of "Galaxy" to a series of supercomputers such as "Tianhe" and "Shenwei" that have become globally renowned as "Chinese speed" brands, the past 40 years have been a period of continuous breakthroughs in China's supercomputing industry. In practice, relying on the construction of national level supercomputing centers and the coordinated support of the state and local governments, the development of China's supercomputing industry has entered the fast lane.

Supercomputers have become a powerful tool for reflecting the country's innovation capabilities, "said Mei Jianping, Deputy Director of the High tech Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The next step for China is to study and improve the national supercomputing infrastructure, design and layout it from a national perspective, and support the construction of national level supercomputing centers in key areas." We hope that these supercomputing centers can be connected together to become a true national supercomputing network, forming a new pattern of national supercomputing resource sharing
