World First! Shenzhen robots replace their batteries for themselves

On July 17th, Ubiquitous disclosed a video showing that the all-new industrial humanoid robot Walker S2 is equipped with the world's first humanoid robot hot swappable autonomous battery swapping system, which does not require manual intervention or shutdown. The robot can achieve autonomous battery swapping within 3 minutes. This technology enables the Walker S2 to work continuously 24/7, laying a solid foundation for intelligent manufacturing to build a "non-stop new quality productivity".

The hot swappable autonomous battery swapping system for humanoid robots has three core technological highlights, including original dual battery power balancing technology, standardized battery compartment quick swapping technology, and dual arm coordinated precise battery swapping technology. Among them, the original dual battery power balance technology can achieve simultaneous charging and discharging of dual batteries through real-time power monitoring and dynamic energy balance technology, seamless switching of battery replacement, support for battery hot swapping and prevent surge current and arc pulling, thereby ensuring the safe, stable and continuous operation of humanoid robots. The standardized battery compartment quick change technology not only allows the battery to be quickly and freely replaced as an energy component through the design of standardized battery modules and zero gap compartment structures, but also becomes a part of the robot's body structure. The dual arm collaborative precise battery swapping technology supports humanoid robots to achieve precise alignment between batteries and compartments through dual arm collaboration, utilizing body positioning accuracy and compliant control algorithms.

As a breakthrough technology, its core lies in allowing robots to autonomously replace batteries without shutting down or human intervention. On the one hand, it avoids task interruptions caused by charging downtime, allowing humanoid robots to have continuous operation capabilities. On the other hand, autonomous battery replacement by humanoid robots can reduce maintenance costs and improve overall production efficiency.

In practical applications, robots can autonomously choose to replace or charge according to task priorities, thereby achieving dynamic energy management. Hot swappable technology has physical isolation and fast power-off mechanisms, which can prevent electric shock and explosion. At the same time, the dual battery system can seamlessly switch in the event of a main battery failure, ensuring the execution of critical tasks and achieving redundant backup, enhancing the safety and reliability of humanoid robots during factory operations.
