In the words of Tan Xuguang, Chairman of Weichai Group, it is necessary to focus solely on our main business and cultivate our own "fields" well in order to move towards world-class status.
Weichai's main business is making engines, and its predecessor Weifang Diesel Engine Factory had several glorious achievements. But by 1998, Weichai had lost 300 million yuan and was on the brink of bankruptcy.
The newly appointed team, under the leadership of Chairman Tan Xuguang, proposed the "three three system" reform. One third of the assets and employees were separated from the main business of high-speed machinery to establish Weichai Power. From then on, Weichai embarked on the path of a modern enterprise.
Do not engage in real estate, financial speculation, or low-end business.
It is precisely the lack of distractions and distractions that have made Weichai renowned in the field of engines.
As a leader in the domestic engine industry, Weichai has built a State Key Laboratory for enterprise internal combustion engine reliability in the industry. The best-selling WP13 and WP9H/10H engines in recent years are all masterpieces nurtured by this laboratory.
According to data provided by Weichai, the R&D investment in the engine sector accounted for 32%, 36%, and 40% of the total expenses from 2016 to 2018, respectively. In the past decade, Weichai has invested over 15 billion yuan in engine research and development alone.
The powertrain is the core and key of heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Weichai has fully mastered the core technology of heavy-duty commercial vehicle powertrain after more than ten years of research and development. This technology won the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2018.
At present, the proportion of high value-added products for Weichai power engines is continuously expanding, and the market share of heavy-duty truck engines has been increasing for three consecutive years.

“不争第一，就是在混”文化已成为潍柴企业理念的一部分。
“企业有质量文化，员工更有处处争第一的干劲，这里面是潍柴人的荣耀。”二号工厂副厂长尹慧琼说。
“我们从一个地方品牌，逐步成长为中国品牌、国际品牌，靠的是什么，就是要争第一。”谭旭光说。
争第一不仅局限于国内，更要走出国门。
在潍柴的展厅，红色小旗已经插到了东南亚、南亚、中东、北非、欧洲、独联体区域等全球各主要市场的版图上。
“发动机制造是一个高度市场化行业，国际巨头早已深入中国分享盛宴。不走出去，潍柴难有国际竞争力。”潍柴动力执行总裁孙少军说。
国际潍柴，是潍柴发展的重要目标。
2009年，潍柴并购法国博杜安动力公司，弥补了16升以上高速发动机的空白。紧接着，战略重组意大利法拉帝集团、德国凯傲集团和林德液压公司。2016年，潍柴收购美国德马泰克。2017年，控股美国PSI公司……
“潍柴每一次重组都与主业相关，都沿着动力的主轴进行延伸。”谭旭光说，潍柴的模式是“补短板、调结构”，追求高质量发展。
居安思危思则有备
荣获国家科技进步一等奖；潍柴WOS质量管理模式荣获第三届中国质量奖；潍柴马兹发动机工厂在白俄罗斯投产运行……

在不少员工眼里，潍柴2018年的大事喜事不断。
然而，2019年农历正月未出，谭旭光一个内部讲话“劈头盖脸”，题目是《潍柴集团将面临新的更大风险》。
潍柴一名高管曾说，集团拥有行业里的全系列产品，竞争对手尤其多。高质量发展稳定持续压力不小。
居安思危，思则有备。时时刻刻保持危机意识，是潍柴始终保持不竭发展动力的前提。
近十年来，受各种因素影响，潍柴营收增速曾经历过两次负增长。逆境下潍柴通过产品研发、技术创新等“修炼内功”，应对发展的寒冬。2015年推出的WP13产品，当年销量便突破5000台。
随着产业版图的扩大，潍柴逐步探索建立了以客户满意为核心的潍柴WOS质量管理模式。通过推行该模式，近三年，潍柴新产品研发周期缩短60%，新机故障率下降72%，质量效益全面提升。
数据显示，2018年，潍柴年营业收入超过2300亿元，20年来以年均35%的复合增长率，推动企业高质量发展。
“立足企业，高质量发展就是，要具有别人拿不走的、始终在行业能够引领的技术，能够使企业不断创造价值的技术，能够不断实现可持续投入的技术，没有这三条，一个企业不会搞好。”谭旭光说。
