The Korea International Machine Tool Show is hosted by the Korea Machine Tool Industry Association and has received strong support from institutions such as the South Korean Ministry of Science and Technology, Gyeonggi Province, the Central Association of Small and Medium sized Enterprises, the Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Corporation, and the Korea Trade Association. The Korea International Machine Tool Show was founded in 1984 and is held every two years. It has been successfully held for 18 sessions and is the most representative exhibition in the Korean machine tool industry. As the only world-class machine tool exhibition in South Korea, SIMTOS leads the development trend of the world's machine tool industry. Its scale has surpassed one of the world's traditional four major machine tool exhibitions, the JIMTOF Machine Tool Exhibition in Tokyo, Japan. In 2018, a total of 35 countries participated in the Machine Tool Exhibition, with 1222 exhibitors and 6055 booths, expanding the scale by 32.6% compared to the previous exhibition

South Korea is a developed country and a founding member of APEC, the World Trade Organization, and the East Asia Summit. It is also a member of the OECD, G20, and important international organizations of the United Nations. South Korea is also a global shipbuilding powerhouse, with an annual shipbuilding order volume accounting for over 40% of the global order volume. Due to the enduring strength of the shipbuilding industry, it has driven the vigorous development of the machine tool industry.

In 2017, the export value of South Korea's machine tool industry was 181.802 billion US dollars, and the import value was 114.226 billion US dollars, of which 22.382 billion US dollars were imported from China and 32.218 billion US dollars were exported to China. From the perspective of imported machine tool products from China, they are mainly concentrated in general machinery, power machinery, precision machinery components, handling machinery, machine tool accessories and materials, among which general machinery and power machinery account for more than 63% of the import value.

Judging from the popularity of the Korean market among domestic exhibitors in recent years, the demand for various products such as CNC machine tools, laser cutting, metal processing machinery, and machine tool accessories is on the rise. A group of excellent machine tool companies have also emerged domestically, starting with an initial exhibition area of 18m ² and now expanding to 225m ², demonstrating a significant increase in recognition of Chinese machine tool products in the Korean market.
